The Advanced Diploma in International Hospitality Management is awarded by BMC International College. This Advanced Diploma is a foundation study for students who seek to advance to the Bachelor’s Degree Level. Students must successfully complete all modules as prescribed in order to be awarded the Advanced Diploma.
The main objective of this course is to provide students with a broad and in-depth understanding of hospitality management in the supervisory or managerial aspects. This course develops students as professionals and self-reflecting individuals that are able to meet the demands of employers in the global hospitality and tourism industry.
Entry Requirements
Minimum at least Diploma or equivalent qualifications
Language Proficiency: A pass in English with Grade C6 and above at GCE O Level, or IELTS 5.5, or equivalent
Matured Candidates
- Are 30 years and above at the time of registration; and
- Have at least 8 years of relevant working experience
All applicants are subjected to the College’s assessment of eligibility for entry into the programme.
Module Synopsis
Module 1: ADIHM 01: PERSONALITY AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
This module aims the students to develop their personality by gaining confidence and to become an effective employee. It will help the student to manage their own professional skills to achieve their professional goals upon completion of the course.
Module 2: ADIHM 02: THE CONTEMPORARY HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
The hospitality industry consists of broad category of fields within the service industry that includes lodging, restaurants, event planning, theme parks, transportation, cruise line, and additional fields within the tourism industry. A hospitality unit such as a restaurant, hotel, or even an amusement park consists of multiple groups such as facility maintenance, direct operations (servers, housekeepers, porters, kitchen workers, bartenders, etc.), management, marketing, and human resources. The hospitality industry covers a wide range of organisations offering food service and accommodation.
Module 3: ADIHM 03: STRATEGIC MARKETING IN HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT
The purpose of the module is to equip the students with the strategic marketing concepts and techniques which are significant in the operations of the hospitality industry.
Students will be taught using real-life cases, applying the various management strategic models and methodologies, where they will be guided on how to make strategic judgments in the best interest to the organisation.
Module 4: ADHIM 04: HUMAN RESOURCE IN HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT
This module covers understanding the principles of human resource (HR) management in the tourism and hospitality industry; leading teams and developing human resources policies.
It enables students to gain understanding of human resource management, employee relations and employment law, recruitment and selection, and training and development in service industries
Module 5: ADIHM 05: FUNDAMENTALS OF FINANCE IN HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT
This module will introduce the essentials knowledge relevant to the financial concepts used in the hospitality industry
Students will understand the key principles for controlling finance how to interpret financial statements and the use of IT to support financial management in the tourism and hospitality industry.
Module 6: ADIHM 06: FOOD AND BEVERAGE MANAGEMENT, BANQUET AND CONFERENCE
This module covers developing food and beverage operations, banquet and conference and understanding the management of food and beverage operations and evaluating their effectiveness.
This course covers management issues and principles relevant to the food and beverage, bequest and catering industry. It will cover the industry segments, business practices, and trends, components of the F&B service system: marketing, menu planning, production, service, controls, and quality assurance.
Module 7: ADIHM 07: ROOMS DIVISION MANAGEMENT
This module will cover the knowledge about the rooms division department that includes the front operations, housekeeping and security department. It will determine the importance of the operations of rooms division department in achieving the desired revenue of the industry.
Module 8: ADIHM 08: IT SKILLS IN HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
This module will provide the IT knowledge and skills to the students that will be beneficial to them. It will compose of the basic Microsoft Office skills (Words, Powerpoint, Excel and Access). The significance of having the IT skills to the career of the students will give them an advantage in their future careers.
Course Duration
FULL TIME: 9 months
Students have theory lessons for a period of 9 months at BMC on Monday to Friday.
PART TIME: 12 months
Students have theory lessons for a period of 12 months at BMC on weekday nights.
6-months Industry Attachment (IA)
Industry Attachment (IA) is provided to the students who successfully completed the 8 core modules of the course. Students can secure IA in or outside Singapore. BMC International College will assist in the IA application by linking them to the industry partners of the College. Students who do not wish to do the Industry Attachment (IA) or are unable to secure, will have to successfully complete a Research Project.
The application for training work permit is subject to approval by the Ministry of Manpower in Singapore.
Method of Delivery
Students can achieve the guided learning hours in combination of face to face classroom interactions, self study and group study as well as research work. They will be required to attend a certain number of lecture hours to support their studies, and will receive guidance to complete the learning hours.

Assessment Information
Assessment of students’ work will be carried out by a range of methods including essay examination, work assessment or assignment. Students’ work will be measured against the specified learning outcomes and assessment criteria of each unit. Mark schemes are provided for each unit and grading criteria are set out below to assist assessors in allocating marks.
