Introduction

International Diploma in Computer Studies(IDCS) programme is directly awarded by NCC Education, UK. NCC Education is a global provider for Education solutions. NCC Education qualifications are recognised by universities, professional bodies and employers.

Course Outline

IDCS is 8 module qualification. This course gives an in-depth knowledge of Computer Studies. All the modules accompany with practical work to enhance the skills of the students. Upon completing this course students can proceed to the Internationa Advanced Diploma in Computer Studies. The modules are as below:

Course Contents

Computer Technology

This module gives a broad overview of a variety of computing technologies so that students can appreciate the key characteristics of the technologies employed to implement today's computer systems and make sense of the new developments in computing technology.

Systems Development

The module covers the processes that are followed when information systems are created or changed and the tools and techniques to support these processes.

Programming Methods

This module is designed to give students a thorough grounding in the key concepts, techniques and methods for the development of programming. The module is independent of programming language and focuses on a student gaining a good understanding of algorithms, data structures and widely-used computing paradigms.

Business Communication

This module is a general introduction to personal communication skills in the area of business and computing for students and IT professionals. The module develops skills in: the interpretation and ccreation of a range of written material; locating data and its processing into information; effective communication in a work environment; and introduction to group working and meetings; and the creation and delivery of presentations.

Fundamentals of Hardware and Operating Systems

This module is intended to provide a student with a thorough understanding of the technical and practical skills involved in the maintenance and configuration of personal computers.

Networking

This module provides a broad introduction to networking, ranging from underlying media to the deployment of networks in business. The module aims to provide a student with a good understanding of modern networks and the intellectual and practical skills to support the specification and deployment of networks.

Web Design

This module aims to provide students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to develop a high quality website. This module is a prerequisite of the Advanced Website Design module in the NCC Education International Advanced Diploma in Computer Studies (IADCS).

Organisational and Business Structures

This module aims to provide students with an understanding of the carious types of organisation, the principal functional area within organisations, the information needs of organisations and the needs of employees in the workplace.

Assessment

Modules are assessed based on Global Assignments, Local Examinations & Global Examinations. Assessments are conducted 4 times an year (March, June, September & December). Students have to attain a pass grade in all the 8 modules for the award of the certificate. Students can appeal if they are not satisfied in the grade awarded in any of the modules within 15 days of declaration of the results. A processing fee is applicable. The fee will be refunded only if there is any change in the grade awarded when compared to the previous result.

Entry Requirements

The minimum academic requirement is 4 GCE 'O' Level including English. Alternatively, candidates who have passed the ITE Cert/ICCS or who passed Unit One of the old IDCS programs are also eligible. Individual units of the IDCS program can be taken independently without entry requirement.

Duration

The IDCS is a course is conducted in 8 months(Full-Time) / 12 months (Part-Time).

New Fee Structure

Under the new fee structure, applicants are required to pay a non-refundable processing fee of $30 when an application for STP is submitted to ICA for consideration. Payment must be made through the ICA online portals for STP application (i.e. SOLAR or SOLAR+). Successful STP applications will only need to pay a one-time fee of $60 for the issuance of the LTP cards, regardless of the duration of the pass granted. The prevailing visa fee will continue to apply for those visa-required countries.

Foreign students will be required to pay a sum of $60 for replacement of lost or damaged STP cards.

NOTE: Fees may change periodically without prior notice.
