Introduction

The course provides and advanced secretarial qualification for those holding, or seeking to hold an appointment as a private secretary and assistant to middle and senior management.

Business Administration
The aim of this unit is to allow candidates to gain a deep knowledge and understanding and it's application in the key areas of administration and organisation, administration systems and procedures, business services and management support.
The candidates will be able to:
- Understand the need for effective business communication
- Be knowledgeable about effective business communication
- Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of accurate and timely information
- Have an understanding of different administration systems and procedures and be able to plan ahead
- Identify appropriate equipment and service suppliers and make recommendations on best business fit
- Be knowledgeable about planning business meetings, events and travel
English for Business
This unit focuses heavily on practical and realistic communicative tasks in a work environment. This unit will provide excellent, clear, systematic guidelines to help candidates achieve their aims and, in this increasingly qualificationed world, an undoubted edge to those wishing to operate in international business circles.
Business Practice
The aim of this qualification is to develop the candidates' knowledge and general understanding of business activity in order to identify the influence on the business organisation and what the success facotr for business might be. Therefore, to highlight the contribution which the individual can make to the success of the business.
The candidates will be able to:
- Demonstrate a general understanding of the influences on the business organisation
- Understand the importance of specialisation in a business context
- Appreciate how business culture, values and the need to promote the public image of the organisation
- Demonstrate an understanding of how communication systems are applied in a business context
Text Production
This unit aims to test the candidates' ability to transcribe business documents from printed and hand-written copies to business documents that are suitable for mailing.
Practical Computing
In order to qualify for this award, candidates must demonstrate competence in a minimum of two applications from word processing, spreadsheet, database and graphics. The Board will supply a set of 4 assignments to be taken in 2½ hours for each application.
Candidates who qualify for certification will have 2 (or more) successful applications endorsed on their certificates.
In order to be nominated for certification, candidates must be able to perform the following functions satsifactorily at the end of their courses:
Word Processing
- Use special characters, mail merge
- Design a form from notes, use display facilities
- Change top and/or bottom margins
- Change paper orientation
- Use vertical columns
Spreadsheets
- Create and use a spreadsheet
- Create graphical representations of spreadsheet data
- Enter formulae using date functions, combine and link spreadsheet
- Enter conditional statements, use standard statistical spreadsheet functions, print spreadsheet
Database
- Create tables from given data, link or join tables
- Create data entry screens, indexes, data checking mechanisms, create report template
- Produce sample database, printouts
Presentation
- Use graphics / drawing package
- Create drawings, slides, inport
- Enable transistions, provide explanation

* Students who pass their individual module will be issued modular certificate approximately 3 months after examinations. Upon completion of course and passing all required modules within 24 months period (over 3 consecutive Series of examinations e.g. Series 3 2007, Series 3 2008 & Series 3 2009), students may convert to a group diploma at LCCI board. Application takes approximately 2 months and group awards must be claimed within 12 months of the date of last examination. New Fee Structure
Under the new fee structure, applicants are required to pay a non-refundable processing fee of $30 when an application for STP is submitted to ICA for consideration. Payment must be made through the ICA online portals for STP application (i.e. SOLAR or SOLAR+). Successful STP applications will only need to pay a one-time fee of $60 for the issuance of the LTP cards, regardless of the duration of the pass granted. The prevailing visa fee will continue to apply for those visa-required countries.
Foreign students will be required to pay a sum of $60 for replacement of lost or damaged STP cards.
