ACCESS Route
Entry Requirements: 4 GCE O’s with credit in English & Maths.
What is the Access route?
The Access route provides an entry route to the LSE-led degrees in the fields of Economics, Management, Finance and the Social Sciences. It has been designed specifically for those who wish to undertake a degree programme who do not currently meet the entrance requirements for the degree.
What do I have to study?
To complete the Access route you must pass two full units (or the equivalent) from a specified list.
Prestige
- • Developed by academics at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), regarded as an international centre of academic excellence and innovation in the social sciences.
- • Provides a route to attaining a world class, internationally recognised qualification from the University of London.
Transfer to the degree programme
On completion, you can transfer your registration to the degree programme of your choice with credit for the units you have passed. You will then be able to complete the degree within a further three to eight years.

Programme aims
- to cater for the diverse career interests of students
- to promote autonomy in learning, enabling you to manage your own learning in a resource-rich learning environment
- to provide subject guidance informed by current research that requires you to engage with contemporary issues
- to enable you to develop critical awareness of the common law legal tradition
- to provide training in legal research methods and study skills.
- Programme summaries
LLB: The degree consists of 12 units when taken through the Standard Route. Applicants who already have an undergraduate degree acceptable to the University may complete the LLB in two years through the nine-unit Graduate Entry Route.
Entrance requirements
In order to satisfy the entrance requirements for the LLB you must be at least 17 years of age at the time of registration and have passes in:
- either two subjects at GCE 'A' level and at least three further subjects at GCSE/GCE 'O' level at Grade C or above
- or three subjects at GCE 'A' level (with one 'A' level at not less than Grade D)
- or three subjects at GCE 'A' level and one further subject at GCSE/GCE 'O' level at Grade C or above
- or two subjects at GCE 'A' level, plus two further subjects at GCE 'AS' level
English language requirement
The University of London reserves the right to request applicants to provide evidence acceptable to the University of oral and written competence in English before an offer of registration can be made.
Graduate entry to the LLB
The following are eligible to apply for graduate entry:
- graduates holding a full first degree from a state university in the United Kingdom or another European country or in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong SAR, Israel, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Sri Lanka, South Africa or the Caribbean
- graduates holding a full first degree from a regionally accredited institution in the USA
- graduates holding a full first degree from an Indian Institute of Technology or a four-year, full-time first degree from a recognised university or a three-year, full-time first degree from a limited number of acceptable universities in India.
Note: Applications from students with other degrees not listed above will be considered at the discretion of the University. Professional qualifications cannot be considered for graduate entry.
Online access
Online access is now a requirement for registration to the LLB programme. If you do not have appropriate online access you will not be able to undertake the compulsory online legal research exercises, complete the online Skills Portfolio or fulfil IT skills requirements.
