Effective communication in the workplace is essential for workers to secure jobs, to be more productive and to increase chances of promotion. English for Effective Workplace Communication - ADVANCED Level is designed for the employee whose additional language, also workplace language, is English. The course is aimed to improve overall workplace communication by focusing more on learners’ writing and presentation skills needed to handle complicated workplace situations.

Introduction

This course is intended for working adults who possess good speaking, listening and reading skills and wish to improve their written language and presentation skills. The course focuses on guiding learners to write important workplace documents, ranging from forms and emails to work proposals and work reports. The course also puts emphasis on learners’ ability to make good presentations at workplace. Upon completion of the course, the trainee will be able to: use formal language to write and reply to emails related to work; write work instructions, work proposal, and work report; write a complaint, a feedback, and an explanation/response to feedback; write a memo, apology, gratitude, and invitation; and present work proposal, work report, and work instruction.

1. Writing an Email

  • use the right format to write emails related to work

2. Writing Work Instructions

  • use simple forms of language (e.g. imperative form) to give work instructions

  • use cohesive devices to create clear work instructions

  • ask questions to clarify work instructions

  • respond effectively to questions clarifying work instructions

3. Writing a Work Proposal

  • use the right format to write a work proposal

  • present clearly different components of a work proposal

  • write a cohesive and coherent work proposal

4. Writing a Work Report

  • use the right format to write a work report

  • present clearly different components of a work report

  • write a cohesive and coherent work report

5. Writing a Complaint, a Feedback and an Explanation

  • use the right formats to write a complaint, a feedback, and a response to feedback

  • present clearly different components of a complaint, a feedback, and a response to feedback

6. Writing a Memo, Apology, Gratitude and Invitation

7. Work Proposal Presentation
